College Essay Writing

July 14, 21, 28, 6:00 – 8:00PM via Zoom

Writing the college essay can be a rewarding and evolving experience when you employ the full writing process. Finding the moment to write about is often the hardest task and needs time. Work with a trained writing consultant from the National Writing Project to utilize strategies to brainstorm, find a structure to complement your message that communicates your tone, and choose words and images carefully to make your essay uniquely yours. In the end, it will beg to be read aloud.

Fan Fiction and Beyond

August 2 – 5, 12:30 – 3:00PM via Zoom

Do you imagine different endings to your favorite books? Do you wonder what would happen if your favorite character made a different decision? Join National Writing Project teachers for four days of fan fiction and adaptation writing at Drew University this summer. Students, grades 6-8, will select a favorite book, graphic novel, or storyline to adapt into a screenplay or to imagine a world beyond those written by the author. Collaboratively or independently, students will draft, discuss and share, revise and reflect on, and present their versions of classic or popular tales for all to enjoy.

Grades 6 – 8
